How long do new energy vehicle batteries typically last?

First, it is important to clarify that the service life of power batteries for new energy vehicles is generally measured not by time, but by the number of charge-discharge cycles. Since a cycle involves different starting and ending states of charge, deep charge/discharge cycles (i.e., 0–100%) yield experimental data. Generally, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries can endure about 2,000 cycles, while current ternary lithium (NMC) batteries typically handle about 1,400 cycles.

Of course, battery cycle life is also directly related to operating temperature. The left graph below shows the change in discharge capacity of Tesla batteries at different temperatures. The right graph illustrates the change in battery cycle life under deep discharge cycles at different temperatures. It can be clearly seen from the graph that the number of cycles at 35°C is significantly higher than that at 55°C.
