Smart charger
Most modern multi-bank airborne systems have integrated microprocessors. These computers run smart programs that charge and maintain the battery unattended without overcharging or damaging the battery, charger, or marine system.

Any onboard battery charger you choose should comply with ISO 8846 and US Coast Guard Title 33 CFR 183.410 ignition protection specifications, which states compatible equipment:
o Does not ignite combustible hydrocarbon mixtures around equipment when ignition source causes internal explosion
o Failure to release enough electrical or thermal energy to ignite a hydrocarbon mixture
o or ignition source is sealed.
Also look for other safety features, including overvoltage, overload, overheating and reverse polarity protection.
Power inverter
Some multi-cell battery chargers have integrated AC power sockets to support other onboard AC devices near the charger. If this is the feature you need, check it.
Guarantee
With all other things being equal, a good determinant may be the tiebreaker. Considering the harsh environment that marine battery chargers endure, the risk of failure is real.
Manufacturers who provide long-term warranty tell you that they are confident in materials and workmanship. You should look for a model with at least a 2-year limited warranty.
